Therapies to Support Cardiac Function
Cholesterol testing and heart imaging can help your provider evaluate cardiovascular risk. We review your history and results together to discuss options that are appropriate for you.
Cholesterol levels
A standard lipid panel typically reports total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, HDL cholesterol and triglycerides. Your clinician interprets these results alongside your history and other risk factors.
Fractionated cholesterol
When a standard panel does not answer a clinical question, additional lipid testing may provide more detail about cholesterol particles. Your provider can determine whether this testing is useful for you.
Advanced heart scanning for coronary artery disease
Depending on your history and clinical needs, testing options may include:
- Coronary artery calcium (CAC) scoring: CT imaging used to assess calcified plaque in coronary arteries.
- Coronary CT angiography (CCTA): CT imaging that visualizes coronary artery anatomy; your provider will assess whether it is appropriate for you.
- Carotid intima-media thickness (CIMT): Ultrasound measurement of the carotid artery walls, used in selected assessments.
- Stress testing: A monitored evaluation of how the heart responds to exertion or medication when clinically indicated.
Your provider will discuss which test, if any, is appropriate for you.
PlaqueX
PlaqueX may be discussed when your provider recommends it after evaluation. Your provider will review whether it is appropriate for you, including relevant benefits, risks, alternatives and costs.
