Nutrition Counseling
What you eat is one part of your overall health, and the right approach looks different for everyone. Nutrition counseling at Naples Center for Functional Medicine gives you time with a licensed dietitian/nutritionist or physician to talk through your eating habits, health history and goals, and to build a plan that fits your life.
What nutrition counseling involves
Your first visit is a conversation. Your provider may ask about:
- What a typical day of eating looks like for you
- Your medical history, current medications and any recent lab work
- Food sensitivities, allergies or dietary preferences
- Sleep, stress, activity and other parts of daily life
- What you’d like to work on
From there, you and your provider decide on next steps together. That might include changes to meals and snacks, ideas for planning and shopping, or a plan to check in over time. If more testing or care from another specialist would help, your provider will talk with you about it.
Who it’s for
People come to nutrition counseling for many reasons. Some want help with an eating pattern their doctor recommended. Others want to understand how food fits with a health condition they’re already being treated for, or simply want a more structured way to eat well. Nutrition counseling works alongside the care you get from your other doctors. It doesn’t replace it.
A personalized approach
There is no single diet that’s right for everyone. Your plan is based on your own history, needs and preferences, and it can change as you go. Your provider can explain the reasoning behind each recommendation so you can make informed choices.
Getting started
The best first step is a consult with one of our providers. They can talk with you about whether nutrition counseling is a good fit and what it would involve for you.
