Labs and Advanced Testing
Lab testing your provider may order to look at areas such as nutrition, thyroid function, cardiac risk factors, inflammation and digestion. Results are interpreted by your provider alongside your history; some tests are not used in conventional diagnosis.
How testing works
Your provider recommends tests after an evaluation, explains what each can and can’t tell you, and reviews results with you. Many specialty tests are private pay. Ask us about cost before testing.
Laboratories and tests we use
- Genova Diagnostics, including the NutrEval nutritional panel. NCFM is not affiliated with Genova Diagnostics.
- SpectraCell micronutrient testing
- IntellxxDNA, a genetic testing company NCFM uses. NCFM is not affiliated with IntellxxDNA.
- Galleri multi-cancer early detection test (GRAIL) [offering confirmed by Michael, Oct 29] NCFM is not affiliated with GRAIL.
- 3×4 Genetics nutrigenomic testing
- Food sensitivity testing and comprehensive stool analysis
- Standard lab work through Quest Diagnostics and Labcorp (see below)
- The p-tau217 blood test, which may help your provider assess Alzheimer’s-related brain changes in adults with memory symptoms. It is not a standalone diagnosis. (See Brain Health.)
- Bone density scanning, on site when ordered by your provider
- 3D ultrasound imaging, on site with our in-office machine, when ordered by your provider
Standard Lab Work (Quest & LabCorp)
- For routine blood work, such as blood counts, metabolic and lipid panels, A1c, thyroid and inflammation markers, your provider may send orders to Quest Diagnostics or Labcorp, independent national laboratories. NCFM is not affiliated with either laboratory. You can usually have blood drawn at a patient service center near you.
- Billing for standard lab work may differ from our specialty tests.
Before your test
Some tests need fasting or timed collection; your care team will send instructions.
Therapies are offered after provider evaluation. Suitability and individual results vary. This information is educational and is not a substitute for advice from your physician.
