The Naples Center for Functional Medicine has long been known as Southwest Florida’s leading practice for personalized medicine, focusing on illness prevention with a philosophy of treating the whole person rather than just a single ailment, thus restoring natural balance to patients’ bodies.
The practice’s history in Naples, Florida, spans more than two decades. Founded in 1998 by board-certified neurologist Dr. David Perlmutter, the Perlmutter Health Center emphasized empowering patients with information to maintain a healthier lifestyle. The author of “Grain Brain” and “The Better Brain Book,” Dr. Perlmutter was the recipient of American College of Nutrition’s Humanitarian Award and the National Nutritional Foods Association’s Clinician of the Year Award.
Upon Dr. Perlmutter’s retirement in 2015, Dr. Pamela Hughes acquired the practice and founded the Hughes Center for Functional Medicine in the same location. Dr. Hughes’ philosophy was that every patient has a unique footprint stemming from genetics, lifestyle, toxic exposures, and mental and physical stress. Dr. Hughes introduced an innovative, research-based brain health program to help patients prevent, and even reverse, Alzheimer’s disease and dementia.
In 2019, HealthLynked Corporation, a Naples-based public digital healthcare company, acquired the practice and welcomed Dr. Eduardo Maristany. The practice was renamed, from Hughes Center for Functional Medicine, to Naples Center for Functional Medicine to coincide with the new ownership and Dr. Hughes’ personal decision to transition out of her role as owner and medical director before relocating. Though the practice name changed, our commitment to providing patients with individualized wellness plans supported by the latest research and technology remains.
Now led by medical director, Dr. Carol L. Roberts, the Naples Center for Functional Medicine continues to utilize modern modalities and offers services including nutritional analysis, diagnostic testing, IV therapy, supplement therapy, genetic testing, osteopathic manipulation, natural hormone therapy and hyperbaric oxygen therapy. Our experienced team of medical professionals at the Naples Center for Functional Medicine partner with patients so they are empowered to address and overcome health challenges through a holistic approach to medical care.
